How To

How to Make the Best Brandy-Alexander Recipe

The first step to creating a cocktail is choosing the right ingredients. We're using Cognac to make this drink. It is a French spirit made from fermented grapes. It is clear in most cases, but it can sometimes be aged in oak barrels. You can buy cognac online at Amazon.com or specialty liquor stores.

The next step is to add simple syrup. Simple syrup is simply sugar that has been dissolved in water. We'll dissolve 1 cup of granulated white sugar into a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves (about five minutes). Add enough cold tapwater to fully cover the sugar by 2" Let it sit overnight. Strain the sugar crystals out of the cheesecloth and dispose them. Keep the liquid in a sealed container in your refrigerator for at least 3 weeks.

For our Brandy Alexander Cocktail, we're going to combine Cognac and simple syrup together. In a shaker, add the Cognac and half of the ice cubes. Add the simple syrup to the remainder of the shaker. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds and strain into a chilled martini glass. Top off the Brandy Alexander with a splash of soda water and garnish with a lemon twist.
